Group size: 4
Game engine: Unity
VeggieSMITES is my first group project created in 2019. It is a match-3 tower defense game where players play as a farmer trying to defend their farm from invading mutant vegetables sent by the Evil Pump-King. Use a giant slingshot to shoot vegetables at the invading horde to defend your land!
The game comprises of 5 hand-crafted levels cycling through different time of the day.
My roles: Producer, Concept, Gameplay, Level designer / Environment & Prop Artist
My primary role was being the producer, responsible for keeping my team on schedule. I plan, allocate, and feedback on the team's progress through sprint reports on a weekly basis, and was also involved in supporting my design lead in conceptualizing the game.
Outside of production work, I had also worked on designing the player and enemy mechanics, as well as building the levels with a Bézier curve system created by my programmer for enemy path movement. I addition, I had created various art assets for the game, including the background environments, enemy vegetables, vines, and the player's barn.
Key Takeaways
This project was my first experience at being a producer and it has taught me the importance of communication. There was a lack of consistency in the game's art due to work being done by different designers, with certain assets being more detailed than others. Taking from this observation, I had worked more closely with my team in later projects to feedback and communicate issues and inconsistencies early so that they can be addressed and rectified before the game is shipped.
